The cliffs here were formed over millennia by highly concentrated mineral water flowing over them.  We’re basically on top of a volcano here, and there is a massive hotspring on the site.  At the actual source of the water, the air is highly toxic- story is that the priests were the only ones that could survive the air in there.  To prove it, they would drop birds and small animals into the cave, and they would die from the poisonous gasses.  Good times!

Above the cliffs was a major ancient “health resort”.  The waters were thought to be curative, but based on the number of coffin makers and grave sites here, they weren’t terribly effective.

The town itself is amazing.  Not quite as well preserved as Ephesus, but a totally different feeling to it.

This evening, we had one of the best meals on the trip.  We went to the Beyaz Kale Pension before our bus ride to Capadocia.  The lady of the house fired up the kitchen and made us a beautiful dinner on the veranda.
